Accessibility

Web accessibility isn't just about compliance to a set of guidelines. Achieving accessibility in the short term does not guarantee accessibility in the long term.

We help organiations achieve and sustain accessibility. We do this by accessibility audits and evaluation, user testing and by providing training and guidelines for web developers. We also design and build accessible websites for organisations who don't have the expertise to do so.

Accessibility Audits

Our accessibility audit rates your site against recognised accessibility benchmarks (like the WAI WCAG 1.0 and various NDA guidelines). We provide a report detailing how your website performed, how many checkpoints it passes or fails and how to fix any problems. Our audit reports comply with the NDA guidelines on accessibility auditing.

We assess to either WAI Level A, AA (Double AA) or AAA (Triple A) and provide a detailed report of how many WAI checkpoints your website fails to implement, where these errors occur and recommendations on how to fix them. View a sample of customers who have used our accessibility audit services.

Our auditing and evaluation services include:

  • Expert analysis, evaluation and software testing- We provide expert accessibility analysis and evaluation. We critique your site using a combination of user testing and our experience and knowledge. We test accessibility with software such as IBM aDesigner, WAVE and A-Prompt against the WAI guidelines.
  • HTML and CSS validation - Using a combination of the HTML validation service and the CSS validation service we can validate a sites markup including syntax and style sheets to the WAI specifications (W3C Open Standards).
  • Assistive technology testing- User interface testing using special needs assistive technology - software or hardware that has been specifically designed to assist people with disabilities e.g. JAWS (Freedom Scientific) and Home Page Reader (IBM). Both are speech-enabled browsers. We also perform tests using hardware such as joysticks and keyboards.
  • Special needs user testing- Undertaking user tests on individuals with specific impairments gives an otherwise unobtainable evaluation of a web site or web application.

We also provide general staff mentoring service to help members of staff with general accessibility issues. These can include questions about the implementation of accessibility guidelines and maintenance of a compliant site. Our friendly accessibility consultants are always on-hand for customers availing of our support services.
