European Parliament Office in Ireland logo

Background

The European Parliament Office in Ireland engaged Open Interface to design, develop and deliver their new website. The new site was launched in Spring 2007 at www.europarl.ie.

Goals

The goal was to create a more intuitive and easy to use website. The site was built to appeal to the audience of the European Parliament Office in Ireland - students, journalists and the man on the street.

Our Solution

As well as building the site to be WAI Level AA (Double A) compliant the site has a number of accessibility features:

  • No PDFs. The site has been completely shorn of all PDF documents. Any information on the site is available in HTML format.
  • Visible skip links allow keyboard-only users, and people using mobile devices to jump straight to the content
  • Style switcher that allows you to increase text size, combined with a flexible layout

The new homepage is below:

The previous site used a number of old design techniques including clunky frames, splash pages and no site search facility.
