Post Polio Support Group Website Development: Case Study
Background
The POST POLIO SUPPORT GROUP (PPSG) is an organisation set up by Polio Survivors to assist their fellow survivors, particularly in relation to the Late Effects of Polio. The PPSG engaged Open Interface to design, develop and deliver their new website.

Goals
The goal was to re-design and develop their website and provide their audience with an information-rich, easy to access website. Polio Survivors are middle aged to elderly. Many have some form of physical impairment that limits mobility. The website was to be designed specifically for their group.
Our Solution
Open Interface designed and implemented a WAI Level AA compliant site in line with current Irish Government and EU requirements.
The content was re-written and optimised for the web in terms of its readability and accessibility.
The site, www.ppsg.ie, has a number of accessibility features designed for older people. These include:
- Large font, with lots of white space to enhance readability
- Additional spacing between buttons and controls
- Multiple styles available
- Help on how to use complex functionality such as the online forum
- Fully accessible using a keyboard only
