Guidelines - Clear, Concise and Easy to Follow
![]()
Open Interface are experienced in the development of easy to read guidelines. Our guidelines are aimed at helping webmasters create and maintain accessible and easy to use websites.
- Clear – to the point, in straightforward language
- Concise – because you have a job already.
- Prescriptive – instructions on how to do it, not just fluffy concepts and ideas.
- With pictures - because "show me" is faster than "tell me"
Types of Guidelines
Interface Design guidelines - Assure consistency in design, layout and functionality through documenting appropriate rules and standards for presentation, layout and controls.
Style guides - Style guides are used widely in print and media to help organisations achieve a "common voice". There are some really excellent examples online for The Economist (a right-of-centre periodical) or The Guardian (a left-of-centre UK newspaper ). Our style guides are far simpler but are based on the same principles; be concise, be consistent and be clear.
In the past we have developed bespoke guidelines for the following:
- Creation of accessible PDF documents
- Managing websites with 3rd party Content Management Systems (such as Terminal 4’s Site Manager and Microsoft CMS)
- In house validation and error checking procedure manual for WAI compliance
