Course Outline - Accessible Design for Webmasters

What is it?

A 2-day training course on accessible design for webmasters. The course provides practical training in accessibility issues in relation to the design, development and maintenance of websites. The course will give in-depth instruction on both technical (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and accessible design issues (how websites should be designed to enable people to use them with ease, regardless of ability).

The course takes into account the latest developments with regard accessibility and how it affects the public sector.

Objectives:

  • Improve awareness of accessibility issues with relation to designing for people with disabilities and their assistive technology
  • Provide practical know-how of accessible design techniques and knowledge on how to implement the WAI Guidelines correctly
  • Highlight the main design issues with respect to accessibility and the public sector
  • Demonstrate how to design for various assistive technologies and highlight the online behaviours of users with disabilities
  • Demonstrate quality assurance techniques and processes that makes maintaining accessible content easy

Course Outline:

The course takes the following outline:

  1. Accessibility; what it is, the principles of universal design, the law.
  2. Different types of Disabilities and their Assistive Technology
  3. Common Challenges in Web Development
  4. How to Implement the WAI guidelines
  5. How to Validate sites correctly
  6. How to Maintain an accessible site
  7. Review of attendees sites

Courseware:

Each attendee is issued with a course manual at the start of the training course. The courseware covers all areas of the 2-day course and acts as a comprehensive set of reference notes for students to take away with them. The courseware is full of practical examples and demonstrations of how to create accessible web pages.

Course Fee:

The course fee is €900 (Dublin) per person. As space is limited to 12 places, pre-registration is essential. Please note that tea, coffee and lunch for both days is included in the course fee.
